One handy thing about the iPhone is that it is a touch screen device, I have lost count of how many people used to push buttons on their phone while it was in their pocket and accidentally call someone. Since all the iPhones had a sensor by the ear piece, it would know when to shut the screen off so you wouldn’t touch any of the on-screen buttons.

This worked well on the first iPhone, iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3G S but for some reason, on the iPhone 4, it’s just not working all that well with me. Now it might just be me in this situation but I have had the same thing happen to me quite a few times now, I’ll be on the phone to someone and when I go to end the call, something else is on the screen because I have done something with (I’m guessing) my ear?

So far, while being on the phone I have managed to write a new e-mail, add a new contact, edit a contact, change contact groups (adding someone to my favourites) and at one point, half way through the call I heard the dialling tone and I had somehow managed to add my mother to the conversation.

This never happened to me on the old devices but on here it seems to be happening to me on almost every single call I make and it’s getting annoying because I have to hold the phone in some weird awkward position so I don’t do anything.

Out of all the problems people have mentioned with this phone like the antenna issue or the yellow circles on the retina display, well none of that has happened to me. Never dropped a call, I do lose signal if I hold it in the right way but I’ve never had a dropped call happen to me and I have never had any yellow circles on my screen.

So, out of all the problems this device has and all the problems that might get discovered in the future, this is the one that is bothering me the most, the fact that I can’t make a call without doing something completely random to go with it is just annoying.

Well that’s all I have to moan about, for today..

However, it is a different story for the 4.x firmware, you can now jailbreak your device without even needing a computer or mac and it’s all thanks to one website that you visit on your device.

Head over to Jailbreakme.com on your iDevice and simply follow the instructions it gives you. Within a few minutes, your device will be jailbroken and you will have access to the thousands of extras through the cydia app.

This is probably the most simple and easiest jailbreak release yet and if you’ve ever been curious as to what jailbreaking gives you access to then I highly recommend that you try this.

Surely apple couldn’t miss something like this though, how could they have problems with the main feature of the phone, that being the phone itself. Some people do think that apple knew about this and are now planning suing apple (and AT&T). My thoughts?

I think that apple probably did know something about it, why? Well it’s simple, look at what apple made to go with the iPhone 4, the bumper case. When you think about it, why would apple make this phone which has easily breakable glass on both the front and back and yet they make a case that protects the side.

The best way of stopping the antenna issues is to cover the area of the phone that causes the issue, and considering the type of case that the bumper is, this is what makes me think that apple knew about the antenna issues.

Just my thoughts, what do you all think?

Most of the reviews I came across were very negative, everyone was saying how it was very flimsy/weak and wouldn’t protect the iPad very well and in some cases I would agree on that. It’s not a case that I would recommend for full on protection, the back is very weak and the iPad would easily get scratched if hit hard enough, the back would not protect it at all. The front flap however is very sturdy and tough, mainly because it is used as a stand and not just a front cover.

The outside edges are annoying but not really annoying, the only issue I had with the edges were the fact that I couldn’t connect my headphones to my iPad as the edges that stick out won’t let the connection go all the way in so I had to use the basic apple earbuds. It’s not a major problem but in some cases, I would rather use my headphones instead of the apple earbuds.

One other problem I found as well is that the case gets very dirty, I’m not sure if it’s just me but my case had a lot of white marks all over it on the front and back so I had to clean the case which doesn’t make much sense but oh well. The case also collects a lot of dust on the screen of the iPad as well, it’s not easy to get rid of it either because when you just try and swipe it off, it just goes underneath the case and sticks to the iPad so you would need to take the iPad out and clean it just to get rid of all the dirt.

Now for the positives.

The main reason I wanted this case was because of the way it made the iPad stand and tilt for the keyboard position, this comes in real handy especially when typing something long like this blog post.

Ok, that’s the only positive in this case, if you’re looking for a basic case then by all means, go for the apple case, but if you are looking for something that you want to fully protect your iPad then it would be better to look for something different.

Overall, I would probably give this case a 7/10 purely because I like the folding it does, it does come with more negatives but for me personally, the folding makes up for it.

Because I live in the UK, I wasn’t able to get the iPad on the actual release date so I had to wait until the end of April, sadly, the date got pushed back until the end of may. Eventually, apple announced that people could pre-order the iPad on may 10th and would receive it on the 28th. Before the iPad was put on the store for pre-order, I had already decided to go for the 64gb wifi only version as the separate prices for a 3G contract had put me off. I may sound a little sad in admitting this, but I had pre-ordered the iPad within the first hour of it being available to pre-order which would hopefully mean I got it on the 28th.

Surprisingly, I got it a day early and have been using it for just under a week now, I have used it so much that I have only been on my PC once during the whole week. This device is amazing, a lot of people might be put off with the price tag it comes with which I can fully understand but when you use this, you will see that it is worth every penny. The first thing I thought when I took it out of the box is that is heavier than what I thought it would have been but I think that’s because everyone who got it in America was saying how lightweight it was probably made me think that it was really light but in the end, was heavier than what I expected, if that makes sense?

As soon as I connected to iTunes and saw the apple logo appear, I could see just how amazing this screen was, even just by the apple logo, it looked really beautiful. iTunes didn’t take long to sort the whole iPad out, all I had to do was enter a few details and set it up as a new device and not a backup from my iPhone, the first thing I did was sync all my tv shows and movies to see how good this screen really was and I was nowhere near disappointed. The screen is really amazing on this device, if you thought the iPhone was good, you should really try this and see how you feel.

I also like the fact that you can rotate the ipad in any direction, I have used the iPad mostly in landscape mode and it is really nice, especially on the home screen. The keyboard, when being used in landscape mode is really easy to use, I am still making a few spelling mistakes but it is so easy to use, it really is just like using an actual keyboard that is in front of you.

I haven’t downloaded a huge amount of apps at the moment as there is not a huge selection of iPad apps available in this country yet but the few that I have downloaded really look good on a screen this size. One app I would like to mention is tap tap radiation, I didn’t play a lot of the tap tap games on my iPhone but when playing the radiation game on the iPad, it just feels really nice. I know I’m probably saying really nice a lot but there is no way of describing this iPad to it’s full capacity until you actually use it yourself. After watching a load of videos on YouTube from people who already got it in America, I was still in shock at how amazing this thing is to use, like I previously said, I haven’t touched my pc in a week because this thing is a lot easier to use. I’m even writing this blog post on the iPad using the word press app from the app store which is a really nice app, it feels like you have control of every option on this version where I felt like a lot of things were left out on the iPhone version so I never used it a lot.

Using safari to browse the web on here is amazing, you really do “have the Internet in your hands” when using it, ok so I have come across a few things that require flash that I can’t see but that’s only a few times, not enough to bother me, since almost every site is going to HTML5 now anyway, a lot of sites will work on your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch now.

YouTube works amazingly well on here, HD videos look amazing on here because of the screen, the layout on the video pages is really user friendly and done well. E-mail is a great thing to use on here, I do mainly use it in the landscape view as I find that portrait view isn’t great when going through your inbox, however it is good when reading a long e-mail. The iPod is really amazing to use, it feels like I am using iTunes on a desktop machine and when the album art is displayed on feel screen, they are really nice quality images, not that you’ll stare at them for a long time, but it’s just a small detail that I wanted to point out.

Overall, it was a lot of money to spend but you are getting something that is like a pc but more gorgeous to use, if there is anything I would change it would be the hard drive options, having 64gb as the highest option to select isn’t really that good. By the time I put all my movies and tv shows on here, I used about three quarters of the hard drive which was a little disappointing. That is the only real problem I could find, there is nothing else that has disappointed me while using this. The battery life is great, it does last for a very long time (10 hours was the advertising usage). The battery will probably decrease and need more and more charges a few months down the line just like the iPhone does but for now, the battery is amazing and will let you do everything you need to in the amount of time that the fully charged battery has.

I think I have covered most things on here, a lot of the things are similar to the iPhone/iPod touch just like everyone has said/complained about. I will probably find more things that I would like to write about and I will write about them in another post but for now, I am going to proof read this as like I said before, I am writing this on the iPad and I have been making some mistakes.

I also have the official apple iPad case as well which I will review in the next post so keep an eye out for that! For now though, ta ta readers!

The one main problem with the mouse though was that it would lag/stutter a lot and take a few seconds to reconnect, this is very annoying and because of this reason I no longer use the mouse with Windows. Anyway, following this method should let you use the magic mouse in windows xp, vista and windows 7.

Ok, first off, you’ll need to make sure that your computer has bluetooth available, if not then you can go out and buy a bluetooth adapter and connect it to give your machine bluetooth connectivity.

Once you have bluetooth on and the mouse on in discovery mode, connect the mouse to the pc through bluetooth. Windows will install the default drivers and you’ll see that the mouse works but scrolling doesn’t.

To get scrolling working, you’ll need to download these drivers, if you’re using a 64 bit version of windows then you’ll need to download these drivers.

Just run the installation and scrolling will work and everything else should work fine to, like I mentioned before though, you might experience some lag issues that will probably annoy you.

I’ve had it running for just under a day now and so far everything is running very nice, there are a few bugs of course but nothing major has happened.

The few bugs that I have come across are to do with the multi-tasking feature, if you open up either the photos or camera app and then close them from the multi-tasking menu and try to open them again, they just freeze and nothing happens. I just put my phone to sleep and woke it back up again to fix this.

Another thing is that I wasn’t able to change the home screen wallpaper from within the photos app, instead I always have to do it from the settings menu, the option is there in the photos menu but for now it’s just not working. Since I can do it in settings though, this isn’t a major issue either.

The last thing I have come across that seems to be buggy is when plugging it into a console to charge it, I used to connect my iPhone to either my Xbox 360 or my PS3 to charge it up but when I tried doing this with the beta, it just constantly disconnected and reconnected and wouldn’t charge much so I wasn’t able to charge it that way.

iTunes won’t allow you to back up the phone either because of it being a new firmware and iTunes hasn’t been updated to recognize the version yet so there will obviously be an iTunes update before the new firmware gets released.

As for all the third party apps from the app store, no problems at all, I’ve had no app crashes or freezing issues at all.

The new games corner app is currently useless as it does nothing, you can just update your status and that’s it. You might be able to add friends but I haven’t tried this yet. The new digital zoom on the camera is exactly what I expected it to be, useless. I’ve got a digital zoom on my Creative Vado HD camera and that makes everything blurry when zooming in so I expected this from the iPhone version and I was right. Everything just looks blurry, a digital zoom just isn’t the greatest things in the world.

The apps folders are real easy to do, I used to use an app called “Categories” from the Cydia store when I had the jailbroken firmware and it was ok but it was nothing special, but what Apple have done with their folder options is really easy to do and works very well.

If you get the chance to try the beta but you are worried of it damaging the iPhone, well I say don’t be worried because it works very well with no problems that are worth crying about. Don’t just download the firmware and install it though as it won’t work, you need to be on Apple’s developer program and they know if you are or not so please don’t think that you can install this like any other firmware.

The easiest way to customize the look of your windows system would be to download something like Stardock’s WindowBlinds and download themes from Wincustomize and then apply them with just a few clicks.

That’s one way of doing it but there is another way you can do it and get access to even more themes for windows, all you have to do is patch a few files in windows and thanks to a program called Vistaglazz, it’s very easy to patch the needed files.

When you’ve downloaded the program and want to use it, make sure you right click on it and click on run as administrator as just double clicking it won’t make it work. You’ll see four buttons on the main window but the only one you’ll need is the first one. Go ahead and click on that icon (the computer icon) and it will tell you if your files have been patched or if they need to be patched for you to be able to use other themes.

All you need to do now is just click on the patch files button and it will do it all for you, once it’s done, just restart your computer and you’re finished! If you want to know if it has worked or not then just open up Vistaglazz again, click on the first icon and see if it tells you if your files have been patched or not.

Once this has been done, you can now download and install visual styles for windows, just do a Google search for visual styles and you should find some right away. One of the sites I usually look at for styles is Deviantart.com as it has a pretty good selection.

When downloading styles, make sure they work on your system, you don’t want to download a windows xp style when you’re running windows vista or windows 7 as it won’t work. You can search Google for various tutorials on how to apply these themes and get them up and running but I may post one myself at some point.

The best messenger app on the Mac is iChat but you can’t talk to your MSN contacts on there unless you go through some long (and complicated) process. Since you can’t chat to your MSN contacts through iChat, you’ll need to use something else and as I said before, there aren’t a lot of choices but the best one out there that I’d recommend is Adium.

Adium allows you to chat to all of your contacts on a wide list of messenger services like MSN, AIM, YIM, ICQ and a lot of others. All contacts will show up in your main contacts window in groups which tell you what service they’re on and of course it shows their status like any other messenger.

The one bad thing about Adium and a lot of messenger programs on the Mac is the lack of webcam support, you cannot use the built in iSight camera on your Mac for webcam conversations so if that’s the thing you’re looking for then you won’t be wanting Adium. There are some messengers on Mac that allow webcam use but most that I have come across don’t, not even the official Microsoft messenger app for Mac has webcam support which I found very disappointing.

Although the webcam support is lacking in Adium, they very much makes up for it with the huge amount of themes and plug-ins that you can download for it. These downloads are called Adium Xtras which can be found at the Xtras website which I’ll link to at the end of the post.

If you’re looking for an example of how you can customize the look of Adium, then take a look at this screenshot I took of my desktop. Adium is on the left hand side (you’ll notice all the contacts), the reason it is quite big is because I have all my contacts showing, you can choose to hide certain contacts if you wish which you might like as you can see that my contact list expands beyond the desktop so I have to scroll down if I am looking for someone. Some people might not like that, but like I said, it can be customized in a very large way.

The themes, the plug-ins, the smiley icons, the speech bubbles and the background image in chat windows are all things you can customize and there are still more things that you can work on.

So, I highly recommend Adium messenger for Mac as it is really brilliant and with all these add-ons, I really don’t think about the webcam problem. If you want to download it then here is all the links you’ll need:

This is just a bit of an update post to do with the site, only a few things have changed, first off the icons on the right above the sidebar have changed as the new ones just weren’t to my liking anymore. (I can be a very fussy person at time…)

Finally, the recommendations page has been removed as I couldn’t keep up with it, it may come back eventually as I haven’t deleted it, it’s just hidden so nobody can see it but me. If I feel like bringing it back then I will do.
